Bagermester Wilhelm Floto

Friedrich Wilhelm Gustaf Floto blev født den 25. november 1868 i Wellersen mellem Hannover og Kassel. Wilhelms far døde i den fransk-tyske krig (1870-1871), og hans mor giftede sig derefter med en mand ved navn Schröder. I Ugerløse er der derfor også nogen som kendte Wilhelm Floto som Bagermester Schröder, da Wilhelm brugte begge navne.

Efter Wilhelms konfirmation i 1885 kom han i lære som bager. Læretiden var 2½ år, og her lærte han blandt andet den særlige teknik at bage brød til jøderne. Han brugte også en del af sin læretid som bud for bageren. Han kørte rundt i byen med en lille vogn forspændt med en hund. Han blev udlært i 1888 og blev hos bageren som svend frem til 1891.

I 1891 rejste Wilhelm Floto mod Danmark. Først gik turen til Eberswalde nær Berlin – herfra videre til Åbenrå (som dengang var tysk), hvor han gjorde et kort stop, for siden af rejse mod København. Han fik arbejde som bagersvend i Esrom i Nordsjælland, og her mødte han sit livs Nicoline (f.2.2.1875). De blev begge i Esrom til 1913, hvorefter de havde lyst og råd til at købe deres eget bageri.

De forsøgte sig en kort tid med et lille bageri på Fyn, men gårdene dér bagte selv det meste brød. Så gik turen til Ugerløse, hvor de købte Ugerløse Bageri for 15.000 kr. af mølleren i Taastrup ved St. Merløse. Bageriet havde været udlejet til en bager Sivertsen, som havde drevet det efter en bager Petersen. Men de kunne ikke få bageriet til at løbe rundt økonomisk.

(Bager Petersen blev brødkusk for Stenmagle Mølle og Bageri, og fortsatte med at handle i Ugerløse.)

Med i prisen, som Wilhelm og Nicoline Floto betalte for Ugerløse bageri, fulgte en brødvogn og to heste, hvoraf den ene hest var så gammel, at den stod op hele natten, da den ikke ved egen hjælp kunne rejse sig.

Hver lørdag eftermiddag, vist omtrent fra begyndelsen i Ugerløse, kørte Wilhelm selv en lille brødtur til Jonstrup, Bonderup, Ubberup, Minnislyst og et lille stykke vej mod Nr. Vallenderød. Til det formål lejede han en lille hest af genboen på Hovedgaden, Skomager Petersen.

Heste og brødvogn blev passet af Herman Hansen, og bageriets første ansatte svend hed Jens Eisenhardt Jensen.
Nicoline passede forretningen, men tog sig også af bageriets pengesager, samt at udlevere brød og kager til brødkusken Herman.

Da Wilhelm og Nicoline købte bageriet i 1913, var det meget primitiv og forfaldent. Bageovnen var gammel og blev opvarmet med brænde. Brænde til bageriets ovne købte de på skovauktioner, og hø til hestene blev købt på roden i engene bag Østrup Skov langs Åmosen.

Kornet købte Wilhelm og Nicoline hos de lokale bønder, og det blev opbevaret i 50 kg sække på loftet over bageriet. Det var et drøjt arbejde at slæbe sække op og ned ad trappen til loftet. Og ikke nok med det, så skulle sækkene også vendes med jævne mellemrum, så kornet ikke mugnede i sækkene. Kornet blev malet til mel på den nærliggende Ubberup Mølle. Men de købte også mel fra Holbæk Dampmølle.

I 1918 fik Wilhelm og Nicoline mulighed for at købe en moderne ovn fra Fabrikken Strømmen i Randers. De byggede et separat fyrrum og en høj fritstående skorsten. Nogenlunde samtidigt kom der elektricitet til byen. Det var en stor lettelse i arbejdet, da de nu kunne bruge elektrisk drevne ælte- og røremaskiner. Tidligere var der et æltekar drevet af hestekraft via en hesteomgang i gården udenfor.

Wilhelm og Nicoline solgte Ugerløse Bageri sidst i 1938 eller først i 1939, og byggede en lille bungalow i Strædet 8. Her boede de begge til deres død. Nicoline døde den 2. marts 1950, og Wilhelm døde den 23. februar 1956. De ligger begravet på Ugerløse Kirkegård yderst mod Hovedgaden med udsigt hen til bageriet på Hovedgaden 21.

Wilhelm og Nicoline fik fire døtre Agnes, Antonie, Minna og Irmgard og en søn Ernst. Minna var gift med Thyge Frederiksen – en bror til byens ”berømte” landskabsmaler Aage Frederiksen.
